Ruth was educated at Down High and after University worked for the National Trust before deciding to pursue a career in law. She graduated in law from the Queen’s University of Belfast and went on to successfully complete the Certificate in Professional Legal Studies. She served her apprenticeship with Carson McDowell Solicitors in Belfast, qualifying as a Solicitor in 1996.
After qualifying she worked for over 8 years in a general practice law firm with offices in Lisburn and Dromore, dealing mostly with litigation but also some residential and commercial conveyancing and the administration of estates.
She joined Thompsons Solicitors in 2007 and deals mainly with residential conveyancing and the winding up and administration of estates. She also drafts and prepares Wills and advises clients on the options available to attempt to minimise inheritance tax as well as advising on the issue of nursing home fees. Ruth also prepares and advises on Enduring Powers of Attorney as well as acting in Controllership matters in the Office of Care and Protection. She also handles some contentious Probate matters and deals with some commercial property matters, such as Leases.
