Mark Jackson

Mark was educated at Methodist College, Belfast before attending University in England to study law and accounting. After graduating, he returned to Northern Ireland and completed the Certificate in Professional Legal Studies at The Queen’s University of Belfast so as to become a Solicitor. He was admitted as a Solicitor in 1997. He was Managing Partner of Thompsons Solicitors from 2003 and is now Managing Director.

Mark has a general and very wide ranging practice. His areas of work vary greatly, from commercial conveyancing through to litigation. He acts for a number of business and commercial clients dealing with all of their legal affairs and queries, from company sales to employment matters, and is able to offer a general, all round business law service regardless of size of client – from start ups to established SMEs to farming businesses to larger concerns.

He has specialist marine law knowledge as it affects the local fishing fleet, having acted for the largest fish producers’ organisation in Northern Ireland for a considerable number of years.

He also acts for a number of farming clients and has considerable knowledge of agricultural law matters, particularly in relation to the sale and purchase of agricultural and farm land, conacre agreements and succession and tax planning issues. He is a member of the Agricultural Law Association.

He also deals with the administration and winding up of estates and some personal injury litigation.  He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Group (Northern Ireland).

He has an interest in social media law, and advises on various matters ranging from social media in the employment context to online defamation and reputation management.

He is a Director and Board Member of a local charity, WAVE Trauma Centre.

He is currently Secretary to the Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal in Northern Ireland. He served as a Solicitor Member of the Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal from March 2009 to September 2014, when he resigned to take up the post of Secretary. He is a member of the Association of Regulatory & Disciplinary Lawyers.
